Gun Control

There have been 290 school shootings in the United States since 2013. Without the ability to easily access firearms, many of these shootings could have been avoided. Americans, due to the second amendment, are able to have guns and weapons in their homes with little regulation. People should have the right to bear arms and buy weaponry, but it should definitely be regulated more closely. There is no reason that an average American civilian should have an assault rifle in their possession. The most important societal problem in America right now is the lack of gun control because there is little being done to improve it. Other issues in society right now are being met with change and reformation, but the fight on gun control has been stagnant.

When something is affecting america's youth as much as the absence of gun control has, it becomes an extremely important issue to address and fix. Children are dying because redneck white guys don’t want to give up their guns. I think that it would be unrealistic to force Americans to keep their guns in a town armory or to abolish guns from people’s homes completely, but regulations need to be put in place to protect Americans. Laws should be put in place that prohibit the sale of assault rifles to non-military individuals. The purpose of the gun is clearly stated in the title. This gun is built to assault people and to do damage. When someone wants to get a conceal and carry there are many types of training that they must participate in before they can buy one. I think this should be a standard practice for people who want to purchase guns of any type. People should have to go through in depth background checks before purchasing a gun or ammunition.

The government has had multiple opportunities to put gun control into place and have failed to do so. How many more children and Americans need to die before guns are seen as an issue to be taken seriously? Obviously it is not the gun who commits the crime, it’s the person, but if that person wasn’t able to get a gun they couldn’t have shot people.
