School

Schools are an environment where creativity and learning are supposed to thrive. I think that there is much more that my school could be doing to foster imagination and education. If I could change my school I would add more art, sports, clubs, and classes.

Sometimes the basic brick school I go to can resemble a prison. To avoid the unsavory comparison I would have students paint murals around the school and add art. Students could even paint their parking spots. To promote academic success I would implement activities and clubs that would help students find their passion for learning. I would add DECA, a debate club, a school newspaper, and a quiz bowl team. These clubs would allow a wide variety of students to explore their interests. Because the school I go is very small, we don't have many types of sports teams. If I had the ability I would add soccer, hockey, tennis, and lacrosse to our sports roster. At the school I attend yearbook is a class with a prerequisite art class. These factors have discouraged many students, such as myself, from participating in yearbook. Many students never have the opportunity to contribute to the yearbook because they never had room in their schedules for the prerequisite, but would have been willing to stay after school to help and design. For how small my school is they have done a relatively good job at providing a variety of classes, but are definitely lacking in some departments. While they provide many agricultural and building classes, they are deficient in social sciences, political sciences, visual arts and media classes. I would add classes that would pertain to these subjects.

Schools are the places that young minds grow and develop. Right now our future senators, archaeologists, and anesthesiologists are sitting in high school classrooms, and I want to provide them with the most enriching and thought provoking environment possible.
